Wind chill, wind schmill
Right now in Lawrence, Kansas, it is 4 degrees (that's -20, for you folks keeping score in Celsius), but in case that's not enough to make you want to curl up and stay in bed, with the wind chill it's -16 (-27 C).
I walked to work. It has to be pretty bad for me not to walk to work, usually so bad that the campus is closed. With four layers of clothes, plus a hat, mittens, and two scarves, it wasn't too bad. The two most important parts of me stayed warm--my ears and my feet.
By the time I got to work, though, I had ice on my eyelashes. WTF? I felt like a Discovery Channel documentary on Arctic exploration. Ice on my eyelashes? The crazy thing as always was seeing folks who didn't dress for the weather. People without hats and gloves. Look, folks, when the National Weather Service tells you to wear a hat and gloves to avoid frost bite and hypothermia, you should probably listen. It's not like your grandma telling you to wear bread bags on your feet to keep dry.

when i lived in michigan, my eyelashes used to ice-up regularly. when i got to my destination, the ice melted and i ended up mascara running down my face. not a pretty picture!
oh, and i never understood not having a hat and gloves, either. those folks are just daring Mother Nature to give them frostbite.
And here in the Philthy burbs we are supposed to have possible record highs (or close, anyway) around 60 degrees or so.
I'm sure on a college campus you will see at least one guy in shorts.
It's still cold today, but our high is supposed to be -19...so it's alittle better.
I hate it.
I really really hate it.
LOL @ breadbags! I also had the Garbage Bag Rain Slicker growing up. Good times!
I guess I won't complain that it's 52, rainy and dark out here in the desert. I bet we might get some overnight snow in the higher elevations around town by the time the week is out.
In less than a week I'll be in Michigan, so yeah, I'm not going to complain about today's weather. Besides, I like it when it's not sunny. We need a change of scenery once in a while.
Oddly, I was FREEZING last night - that "can't get warm" kind of cold - even though I was in flannel PJs, bootie socks, under 2 blankets, with the heated mattress pad on AND the thermostat set at 73... SEVENTY THREE!! Then I had wicked insomnia last night and somewhere around 3am, I was walking around the house in a light weight tee (full of holes), 65 degrees, and felt just fine. I thought I'd be freezing today (it's in the 50s) but, again, I'm totally comfy. Something strange is going on with my body!
Here it's been raining on and off all day... well, since Sat. night... and now there's lightning. WTF? Lightning and thunder?
