Really Lost

.My life is the present, Now this minute." What amazing people. No one knows what they would do to survive until they are put in that situation.

Thanks for sharing this inspiring story.

I've always been fascinated by this story (not horrified, because I applaud the will to live and have no trouble with the concept of eating to survive), but this is the first time I've taken a life lesson from it. Excellent post!
You'll be interested to know that I've been re-reading two very good books on the story, as a kind of research for my SEED project.

I loved the book Alive (so much better than the crap movie they made of it), especially when one of the survivors compared it to Holy Communion by saying Christ nourished my spirit with his flesh and now my friends nourish my body with theirs.

I don't know what else to say except thank you for writing and sharing this.

I've only heard of this event, but not any of the details or the personal stories. Thank you for sharing and inspiring me to learn even more.
I guess this puts paid to the whiny, self-indulgent post I was going to make today about my crappy week.

The emotional bonds we form with other people are the most valuable things we have.

All too true.

Cool! I'm looking forward to reading that.
No, whining's totally allowed. I mean, that's what I did yesterday.

Nice pep talk, Redz. Thanks. :-)
Intense. Thank you for sharing. I needed that to bring me down to reality a little.

Your last paragraph says it all. It is just that simple. Thanks for the pep talk!! I needed that reminder.
Thank you for posting this. I had heard the story, but I really enjoyed reading his own words.

Hey, Red, I had been looking for some type of inspirational quote to top my blog with.

You have been quoted. :)

Let me know if you have any issues with that, thanks.

I'd heard only vaguely about this, never the details. Maybe it was about a similar crash. Such courage ... can't even begin to imagine.

The emotional bonds we form with other people are the most valuable things we have.

Touché.

Great post, I really enjoyed it. I've heard the story before but never the details, and your account was really well done. I just read a book about the whaleship Essex, a Nantucket ship that was sunk by a sperm whale. The survivors climbed aboard the remaining lifeboats, which got separated in the night. On one of the boats, the survivors ended up eating the dead out of desperation. One of the most stunning moments in the book was when the survivors, on the verge of death, agreed to draw straws to see who would go next. Then they drew straws to see who would kill the victim. The victim accepted his fate bravely, and the poor person who drew the straw to be the shooter turned out to be the victim's best friend. It was really a shocking, unreal story of desperation and the will to survive.
