My understanding is that the term "hard" hanging refers to one done without humane considerations. In a humane hanging, the hangee is dropped from a scientifically calculated height. Death is nearly instantaneous and caused by the sudden severing of the spinal column. In a "hard" hanging, the hangee isn't dropped, but is hoisted. So death is caused by strangulation and takes 5-6 very unpleasant minutes.
So... some very polite lawyers for the Japanese toy company Toho tell me I can't use the Godzilla graphic anymore. Or any dinosaur or lizard graphic. I've been a bad girl.
